In an ideal world, I would always meet the subjects for each painting to take photos and make studies, but this is not always possible. Sometimes, this just isn't logistically viable due to distance and so on, but sadly, sometimes the subject is no longer physically with us to be drawn or photographed. In these circumstances, I work with the client, collating images to produce mock-ups for their approval before going ahead with the painting.
